The aim of the project was to create an artistic illustration for a philosophical sci-fiction book. The illustration had to be a mix of three basic themes of the book: biology, architecture and mathematics. Blending design of Pagoda of Fogong Temple, the Mandelbrot set (a mathematical fractal) and a structure of underground ant hills (in a form of molten aluminum sculpture).
The main idea behind the illustration was to show the parallels in these three themes and demonstrate that these three themes are effectively the same thing. Aiming that they are all based on the concept of multiple repetitions of the same element.
The main challenge was to combine these three themes so they organically co-exist in one image, supplementing each other or even blending, while remaining distinctively recognizable.
